The Board has drafted a policy for registered occupational therapists regarding assistants in occupational therapy practice. The policy is aimed at ensuring practitioners provide adequate supervision and direction to assistants and do not delegate tasks/treatment techniques which should only be performed by the treating practitioner.
Given that occupational therapists are vicariously liable for the conduct of employees the Board has drafted the policy as a guide to the profession on the role responsibilities of the practitioner and the assistant, and tasks which may or may not be delegated to assistants.
